THE EVOLUTION OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING IN THE 21ST CENTURY: PEDAGOGICAL SHIFTS, TECHNOLOGICAL INTEGRATION, AND GLOBAL READINESS

Abstract

English language education has undergone significant changes in the 21st century. Traditional grammar-focused teaching methods have evolved into a student-centered approach, emphasizing practical communication skills through interactive activities and cultural exploration. Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) and Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) have become pivotal in promoting communicative competence and practical language application. Integration of technology enhances teaching and digital literacy. Communication skills, cultural awareness, lifelong learning, and adaptability are key traits of modern English language educators. This transformation prepares students for an interconnected world, fostering critical thinking and a deep appreciation of language's cultural aspects.
