The XPS-revealed difference in the molecular sorption mechanism of Se(IV) and Se(VI) on Mg-Al-CO3 Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) focusing on the material surface speciation

Abstract

This paper extends the previous work on the EXAFS-derived mechanism of Se(IV)/Se(VI) adsorption on Mg-Al-CO3 LDHs synthesized by the original method and uses XPS surface analysis to determine the material phases, responsible for these anions removal. A new methodological idea is suggested how to distinguish chemisorption and physisorption by XPS.
