Abstract
The paper examines the specific features of fare-setting in suburban passenger railway transportation. It analyses the issues related to the financial losses incurred in passenger services, the functioning of the zonal fare system, and prospects for its reform. European approaches to financing public service obligations (PSO) are also considered, along with the possibilities of implementing these mechanisms in Ukraine.
