The problem of metal production has always been one of the most actively researched topics in European, as well as in world archeology.

A complex approach to the study of ancient metal production, the effectiveness of which is obvious, contributed to the birth of new branches of archaeological knowledge, among which mining archeology occupies a prominent place.

The formation of any scientific knowledge is impossible without the conceptual apparatus – one of the most important tools of scientific knowledge.

This article is devoted to the definition of some basic concepts of the problem of metal production of the early metal era of the Donetsk mining-ore center.
