The role of applied catalysis in the modern chemical industry, with a special emphasis on the requirements for novel catalysts, has been presented. On the basis of years of INS, the problems of development and requirements for modern catalysts. In order to fulfill strict process requirements and to enhance the stability of low-temperature WGS (LT-WGS) catalysts, scientific research on the improvement of the catalyst is carried out. The effect of lanthana addition to CuZnAl hydroxycarbonate precursor on the crucial physicochemical parameters and stability of catalytic activity was studied. Finally, the efficiency of a pilot batch of La-modified CuZnAl catalyst was tested. The results of investigations on improving catalysts for water-gas shift reaction widely used in crucial branches of syngas and hydrogen industry were shown, and the role of proper transition from laboratory through large-laboratory scale to TRL 9 has been emphasized.
